More about the process
Before the interior of a ship is built the designer and the architects work out in detail what the colors and themes will be for cabins and public areas. I am given samples of material, and color selections. I create a series of sketches, mini paintings really, that are my guidelines for the much larger, finished work. I paint in my studio, on material that meets particular maritime building codes but I also use a variety of textures and materials that give the work a handmade tactile quality. Once the work is completed it is packed and travels by container ship to France, where the ship is in its final construction phase. I travel to the dockyard to supervise the installation, put finishing touches and work on touchups, if need be.
Info on MSC Cruises
MSC Cruises is a fairly new arrival on the Passenger Cruise scene, with a dynamic fleet of elegant and ecologically minded ships that boast some of the most luxurious interiors in the Cruise Ship world. The interiors of the ship are treated with the same care as those of a luxury yacht in the selection of both materials and artwork. Materials range from exotic woods to an assortment of stone, marble and leather to a selection of paintings and sculptures all produced exclusively for the ships.
